It has been almost a decade since a new main game in the Dead Space series came out. What is cool is that the series is coming back with a full reboot. Even though it was rumored, it was still a shock to see announced. Right now the game looks pretty early. Is it coming out in , or will it more likely be a release?

Based on the track record of quarantine delays, the latter of the two looks more likely. Thankfully, there are plenty of action-based survival horror games out there to play in the meantime from obvious picks to more obscure ones. If you have played through Dead Space as well as its excellent follow-up Dead Space 2 but are not ready for more horror goodness then worry not because there are always more games to try out from both the AAA and indie scenes. Dead Space relied on a fantastic atmosphere, tight exploration, and superb sound design which is why these extra additions deserve to be on this list.

Unfortunately, many horror fans looked past this title since it was released closely to Resident Evil 4 , a game that needs no introduction in the horror community. Cold Fear has a truly incredible atmosphere where you feel like you are lost at sea on a haunted ship. Plus, the ship even rocks in the waves which directly and dynamically affects the way you explore and battle the creepy enemies.

Infliction: Extended Cut is a top-notch first-person horror experience that doesn’t feel out of place sitting alongside the likes of P. While Infliction: Extended Cut doesn’t feature the prominent space horrors that Dead Space does, it still has one of the most terrifying explorable locations in all of horror games. You play as a husband who must discover the untimely and grisly death of this wife.

The haunted house you find yourself in is brimming with ghostly audio cues, twisting corridors, and plenty of bumps in the night. This one will stay with you long after you shut it off for the evening. Now is the best time to check out Alan Wake because it is getting a remaster. This sees the titular character vacationing in a quiet town filled which is soon filled with shadowy nightmares.

All he wants to do is write but he gets much more than he bargained for. It’s as close to a Stephen King game as fans can get right now. Alien: Isolation might be the best game in this film franchise ever conceived. Aliens are not supposed to go down easily. The AI of them was perhaps a bit too smart, making the game very challenging. For those seeking another horror game in space, this is a good find.

BioShock took the gaming world by storm when it launched thanks to its unique setting, story, and gameplay. Plenty of horror games were set in haunted mansions or space, but no one had ever created an undersea biodome quite like this before. The sequels are fun too but the setting of the original game was haunting and exhilarating all at once. From the Splicers to the Big Daddies, every enemy in the game presented players with a sense of reward for being able to take these horrors down.

Control is a more recent sci-fi action game with plenty of spooky things in it, too. It is recommended to wear headphones when playing this game because there are whispers heard throughout the cursed building. Wearing them will create a good atmosphere. Jesse, the main character, is trying to find answers to her past. The only people she thinks can help are a mysterious bureau that, upon arrival, is suffering from a horrific fate.

Dino Crisis 3 is often panned as the worst game in this short-lived series. There are many reasons why it is considered bad such as the story, camera angles, empty spaces, and so forth. Then there are some that hold it in high regard.

It may be divisive and hard to play nowadays but one has to admit that sounds like a cool premise even if the execution was flawed. Both games in this series are worth recommending but The Evil Within 2 is a bit tighter of an experience. The shooting is better and the story makes more sense as just two examples.

The developers hammered away at the basics of the original in order to create this much-improved sequel. Another interesting thing about it is that early sections of the game are set in an open world. This is another series with two great games but many fans tend to consider The Last of Us to still be the better game. Man, perhaps, is the greatest evil of all which is also well represented in this game. Lost Planet is another space-related horror game. This one sees players fighting off killer insects on a frozen planet.

It features a lot more action than what one would call traditional horror. Still, as it does take place on a foreign planet, Dead Space fans may still be engaged by this one. If players want a co-op horror experience then get the sequel. The third should be avoided though. Prey is technically a sequel but also a reboot at the time having almost nothing to do with the original.

This is sort of like BioShock in space. Players wake up to see their space base taken over by inky black creatures that can literally hide in plain sight. Even a mug could be disguised as one of these deadly creatures. Though this results in many jump scares, the game’s progression allows the player to counter this in various ways.

The entry from Arkane Studios is a ghastly adventure horror fans will love. Fans of System Shock are also likely to delight in a few things , too. Most games in this series can easily be recommended as it is one of the most well-known horror franchises in video games.
