You may think that this might be a sequel to the awesome, Beetle Adventure Racing on the Nintendo 64, but the two games are not related. Still, if you think VW Bugs are cool then you are in for a good time here. The main mode that you will be playing towards is all about getting points by winning races. This is called the Championship Mode and it is what you would expect.

The game features a ton of tracks and getting through the Championship Mode might take a few tries as the handling of these VW Beetles has a strange kind of feel to it. The presentation of Beetle Crazy Cup is a real mixed bag. On one hand, I love the way that the actual cars look. There is a ton of personality here and an awesome selection of VW Beetles to race as.

There are close to 20 types of vehicles and multiple designs in each type. While the cars look good, the tracks, on the other hand, leave a lot to be desired. There is a nice variety to the tracks, but the details are all very flat and certainly make the game show its age. One really cool thing is that while the game is an arcade-style racer it takes things a step further. There are different racing modes and each one changes things up.

For example, in Buddy Mode, you are on a beach and need to watch out for the wet and soggy sand. Cross is all about being in a big stadium and dealing with slopes and tricky dunes. There is a Jump mode where you need to hit this nitro at the right time to make a bit jump.

Monster is probably my favorite as this is like you are in a monster truck arena and the Beetles have big giant wheels! Then we have Speed which is a frantic race to the finish line.

So there is a lot of content here in Beetle Crazy Cup. The unlockables are cool as well as you can get more cool vehicles like an old school VW van which I had a lot of fun screwing around with on the different tracks.

While by today’s standards what is on offer here is very basic. I will admit that the game does not exactly look great, nor does it play all that great too. However, if you are like me and think that a VW Beetle is awesome then I am sure you will have a fair bit of fun with Beetle Crazy Cup.
